Mars moon ephemerides after 14 years of Mars Express data

چکیده

The Mars Express (MEX) mission has been successfully operated around since 2004. Among many results, MEX provided some of the most accurate astrometric data two moons, Phobos and Deimos. We present new ephemerides moons benefitting from all previously published to recent SRC data. Observations 1877 until 2018 including spacecraft measurements Mariner 9 were included. Assuming a homogeneous interior, we fitted forced libration amplitude simultaneously with Martian tidal k 2 ∕ Q ratio initial state moons. Our solution physical 1.09 ± 0.01 degrees deviates notably solution. Considering very low error bar, however, this may essentially suggest necessity consider higher order harmonics an improved rotation model in future. While could be fitted, found disagreement between Reconnaissance Orbiter at kilometer level, probably associated biased phase correction. current precision is expected level few hundred meters for several Deimos coming years. real accuracy our will have confirmed by comparison independent observational means.

ESA's Mars Express Mission – Europe on Its Way to Mars

Introduction In the broad context of planetary science, Mars represents an important transition between the outer volatile-rich, more oxidised regions of the accretion zone of the terrestrial bodies (asteroid belt) and the inner, more refractory and less oxidised regions from which Earth, Venus and Mercury accreted. Its size, the degree of internal activity, the age of its surface features, and...

Observations of the nightside ionosphere of Mars by the Mars Express Radio Science Experiment (MaRS)

[1] The vertical structure of the nightside ionosphere of Mars and its dependence on solar zenith angle are currently poorly determined, as is the importance of two key sources of nightside plasma, electron precipitation and transport of dayside plasma. We examined 37 electron density profiles of the ionosphere of Mars at solar zenith angles of 101 –123 obtained by the Mars Express Radio Scienc...

Global mineralogical and aqueous mars history derived from OMEGA/Mars Express data.

Global mineralogical mapping of Mars by the Observatoire pour la Mineralogie, l'Eau, les Glaces et l'Activité (OMEGA) instrument on the European Space Agency's Mars Express spacecraft provides new information on Mars' geological and climatic history. Phyllosilicates formed by aqueous alteration very early in the planet's history (the "phyllocian" era) are found in the oldest terrains; sulfates ...

Modeling Mars’ ionosphere with constraints from same‐day observations by Mars Global Surveyor and Mars Express

[1] We have analyzed a brief period of same‐day observations of the Martian ionosphere using data obtained in December 2004 from the Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) and Mars Express (MEX) radio occultation experiments. These data were taken shortly after sunrise under solstice conditions in both hemispheres, with MGS in the summer (northern) hemisphere at high latitudes while MEX was in the winter (...
